THE PAINTED LADY
NARRATIVE SHORT FILM 2016
Inspired by my own life experience, The Painted Lady explores themes such as the male gaze, female awakening and self-discovery. Hardship, such as a breakup, can propel us forward. Women tend to define themselves by how others, particularly men, view them. How can we (women) redirect this narrative and take charge? In The Painted Lady the heroine breaks free by repainting the image her lover has created of her.
Logline
The breakup from 60-year old painter Jacob takes the much younger exotic dancer Sam on a nocturnal rollercoaster ride and eventually sets her free.
