BIO

MULTI-CULTURAL FEMALE FILMMAKER

Stephanie is an award-winning director and writer from Zurich, Switzerland based between New York City, Tel Aviv and Zurich.

Her short films and screenplays have screened and won a number of Jury and Best Short awards at festivals worldwide, including Tribeca Film Festival. She previously worked as producer and director in Switzerland, the UK and Israel, where she assistant-directed the Oscar nominated Israeli drama Beaufort.

As a classically trained painter with a background in fashion and dance, her work is a quilt of cultural and textural influences that range from experimental to narrative storytelling. Her latest short Esther In Wonderland, which she is currently developing into a feature, won first place at the Atlanta Film Festival and Shore Scripts Screenplay Competition and screened at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.

Stephanie holds an MFA from New York University's Graduate Film Program and speaks six languages.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

WOMEN IN THAT SPACE "IN BETWEEN"

As a second-generation, Jewish, female artist growing up in Switzerland, I experienced adolescence as a struggle between fitting the mold and carving my own path. My films portray women in transition and explore the spaces IN-BETWEEN.

I work with actors, dancers, athletes and models of different backgrounds, ethnicities, identity, shape and size.

I generally cast against type.

The norm does not interest me. The raw, the real, the conflicting, the sexual - yields emotional and visual texture and depth.
